The Alternative Budget Competition 2010
$10,000 in prize money
The Productive Economy Council and the NZ Manufacturers and Exporters Association have established this competition and are inviting currently enrolled students across New Zealand universities to put forward their economic vision for New Zealand for 2010 and beyond.
The Challenge
Your team of four is charged with assembling an Alternative 2010 Budget, made up of a Budget Policy Statement (limited to 5 pages in length) and a Financial Model, to be released May 2010.
The competition will be held in TWO rounds. In the first round, you will be asked to provide a visionary statement for the New Zealand Economy. The deadline for round one entries is April 22nd 2010.
This Budget has to address the current fiscal demands of running the country (balancing the books) but, arguably more importantly, set a strategic vision for New Zealand’s economic recovery.
Teams making it into round two will be required to present their budget, expanded vision and costings before a team of judges in Auckland on May 12th 2010. Teams chosen from out of Auckland will be flown up for the finals.
The Prize
Four teams will be selected to enter into round two. Each of these teams will be awarded $1,000. The winning team will walk away with a cash prize of $6,000.
